Safety & Responsibility (SMETA)

PPG: Leads With Quality, Safety, Customer Service, and Performance

As a leader in design, manufacturing, and co-packing for 18 years, we constantly work to improve metrics that we know are important to our people and our customers. As a FDA inspected contract manufacturer, food safety and quality are of the utmost importance to PPG.

We feel it's important to share that PPG's ownership group, Tilia Holdings, has invested significantly in its view and approach to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), a set of standards for a company's behavior used by socially conscious investors.

Why PPG? Quality... World-class performance and results, everyday

Our customers expect the highest level of facility management and product quality for their food and dietary/nutritional products. PPG consistently monitors all services, processes, and production through its dedication to quality management. In conjunction with our people, management refines current procedures and implements new ideas through a culture of continuous improvement.

We use quality control data to isolate and provide feedback on the causes of quality issues, perform root-cause analyses, and develop strategies to eliminate issues. Our procedures and facilities are routinely audited by both regulatory agencies as well as clients. PPG is committed to these procedures and more to ensure quality for our clients.

  • Secure warehouses, lot control traceability, and temperature-controlled environments
  • NSF sanitation certification for commercial food equipment, which ensures that equipment design and construction meets stringent food safety and environmental health standards
  • Testing for contaminants and certifying that supplements contain the ingredients listed on the label and nothing else, which protects consumers

Why PPG? Safety...embedded in our people and processes

Anyone operating in the co-packing industry knows that SMETA compliance is of premier importance. PPG is proud to be SMETA compliant. SMETA's two mandatory audit pillars are Labor Standards and Health & Safety.

These pillars are the backbone of PPG's culture. Our people is where it all begins. We create an environment where our people know we value them. Ensuring safe operations and addressing safety concerns are top priorities. Proven Partners Group's mindset is offensive rather than defensive. We have company-wide safety policies to prevent accidents from happening in the first place. When they do happen, we work hard to correct the root cause and ensure that the same accident doesn't happen twice. At the core of this goal is encouraging a positive reporting environment where our people feel empowered to share concerns.

These measures are working. We are proud to outperform many of our competitors with a Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) for 2022 of 1.7, versus an industry average of 3.0.

We are also proud that during the global pandemic, we safely served all customers as an essential business with no outages or worker impact, despite the virus' crippling effect on many supply chain businesses in our industry.

Why PPG?...Responsibility...invested in our community

We are serious about our responsibility to operate ethically--in our community and beyond. This includes workforce diversity, environmental sustainability, and partnerships. In addition to the two mandatory SMETA audit pillars (Labor Standards and Health & Safety, two additional pillars of the 4-pillar audit are Business Ethics and Environment. PPG values these as well.

Workforce Diversity

In addition to our efforts to ensure employee safety, provide leading training, and prioritize retention, we promote an inclusive and diverse workforce. Our metrics prove our commitment: women comprise 3 of 7 on leadership team and 54 percent of overall workforce, and minorities represent 95 percent of our workforce.

Sustainability

Environmental awareness is also part of our ethical responsibility. As individuals and as a company, PPG is dedicated to improving. In 2023, PPG kicked off our journey to advance sustainability in partnership with our ownership group, Tilia Holdings, with an emphasis on food waste, food safety, and energy usage). These efforts include a third-party firm engaged to measure emissions, energy, and water usage, with a focus on reduction strategies.

Partnerships

As members of the Chicagoland Food and Beverage Network (CFBN) we collaborate with other industry professionals to pioneer projects that allow us to not only give back to our local community, but also reduce food waste, provide job opportunities, and help the food supply chain to become safer and more sustainable.

As proof of this commitment, PPG has partnered with Bigger Table and the Chicagoland Food and Beverage Network on several food donation projects. Our goal is to participate in similar initiatives alongside additional industry professionals in the Chicagoland area.

ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Standards

ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) Standards

These standards, which positively affects PPG's conduct with both our own people and our clients, include:

  • Environmental (safeguard environment)
  • Governance (company's leadership, executive pay, audits, internal controls, shareholder rights)
  • Social (health of relationships with employees/securing populations (employee safety, training, promotion of inclusion, retention), suppliers, customers, and community)
